pride

i am posting. take note.

so living in ev has been fun so far. we've gone to popscene and out to eat, had movie night in house and a trip to san francisco for the pride parade. everything is starting to look up, not to mention i have a newfound confidence in our ability to keep in touch winter quarter when we're all in different housing. junior year, i'll come study at your place because i can't concentrate while my weird roommate has her human sacrifice ceremonies or something, and you'll eat at lag when you're trying to be masochistic and down to earth.

other than that, nothing special has happened in my life or in this creepily quiet building. but i will indulge you with a few short stories from earlier this week, seeing as i usually bore you with my daily anecdotes anyway, like some senile old man in a convalescent home.

the first funny thing that happened was i was with this really hot guy in the elevator as i was moving my boxes in. i was all impressive with my heavy lifting skillz and skimpy athletic clothes and he had strangely pretty hands. i thought it was set, began to picture what our little mulatto hypothetical babies would look like, when i realized that everyone in these damn apartments is married, and probably even has children. real children. i have since come to believe that he is gay and has already adopted two dreadful kids with his partner, just so that it wouldn’t have worked out anyway.

the second funny moment occurred as dina and i were headed out to do errands the other day. we waited for the elevator to come to our floor and as it pulled up we heard an animated conversation inside. when the door slid open and we stepped in the couple, presumably married, stopped their talking immediately and all was quiet on the awkward ride down as dina and i exchanged looks. when we got off i followed her to the laundry room where her clothes were and said, casually,

“dina, you know what i was just thinking?”
“i bet i was thinking the exact same thing.”
“that everyone in this building probably thinks we’re a lesbian couple?”
“that’s is exactly what i was thinking.”
“hmm. okay. bye, honey. see you later.”
“bye, darling.”

i cannot believe we didn’t think of that before. and it’s especially funny when we go running together in our matching outfits.

Hmmm...what can I talk about?

Alright...well, I was trying to wait 'til I had something exciting to tell all you guys but exciting things don't really happen all that often in Nashville/Rocky Mount, NC. I've mainly just been catching up a little with friends, watching some tv, reading, and going to the dentist. Oh and I found out that there were two new stoplights put up in town. Fun stuff right? yeah, but not really too exciting.

I do, however, have some exciting things coming up though. For instance (Yamanda and Jules will appreciate this, and maybe Lauren...you like country music right, Lauren?) I'm going to the Pat Green, Gretchen Wilson and Kenny Chesney concert in August! I just purchased my ticket this past week and am very excited. I also purchased a ticket to the US Women's National Soccer team vs. Canada game this weekend at Virginia Beach, so my dad and I are going to head up there for that. I love watching the US National team play! Disney World is around the corner (getting excited jules?)! Yeah, I know Nadya, Disneyland's better blah blah blah. ;o) Oh, and Dina, I still think I am going to see Proof, so I'll let you know how that goes.

Well, that's my life right now. Boring right now, but a welcomed boring. After this past quarter, boring is good!

I've got 99 problems...

Ok, so yesterday it was 99 degrees. yes, 99. But it felt like 102 degrees. Then it rained in the evening. So basically the weather is amazing here. Then today it's 95. And I saw on the news last night that kids in New Jersey were sent home from school because temperature reached the low 90s. I never would have finished school if that happened here. Silly east coast. Besides that I have no news. I've been hanging out, watching Oprah and the NBA playoffs, and visiting some doctors. Last night I watched Beauty and the Geek, the reality show Ashton Kutcher created. I know Lauren is giving that statement a disapproving look, but it was really good. I realize I have no standards when it comes to reality tv, but it was quite entertaining, and not even in an "oh those guys are such losers" kinda way. I also saw Mr. and Mrs. Smith. And it was funny. Oh and Lauren B. (and anyone else who cares) Nip/Tuck Season 3 does start in Sept. I'll tape it for you. Hope everyone is enjoying his/her summer!

Howdy

Actually, despite what you may have thought, I have not fallen off the face of the earth. To all who have telephoned me, I'm sorry if I haven't responded yet. Trying to get Cingular service in my house is like getting a refund from Enterprise Rental Car, damn near impossible.

All is well at home: my mom is doing well, it's suffocatingly humid, I've been reading a lot, the works. I'll write a lot more when I can have uninterrupted access to the internet. Right now I'm writing to you from a community center, and against my only-child spirit, I have to share.

Back in Good Ole NC

Wow, Dina. That stinks. I agree with Pat. Clearly these guys don't know the high status of coolness you have to offer! OH and HAPPY REAL BIRTHDAY TO YOU!!

Ok, well, I'm back in NC after a brief diversion to Myrtle Beach, SC which was fun, but there's no place like home. This won't be a long post b/c not much has happened yet. First Yamanda, it wasn't a pool. It was an HDTV, but thanks for getting my hopes up. ;o) The TV is pretty darn cool too though. Jeanette, I'm so proud of you. You are finally on facebook. I knew this day would come! Yamanda, Annie, and Jules hope you guys are having a good time at home in the southern humidity. I know I am! <------ scarcastic tone!

Ok, being as how I do live in the Bible Belt I must be getting off to church. Don't worry, I actually want to go. ;o)

I'll check in later on!

It's a Wonderful Life

Mood: what?
Currently Playing: It's a Wonderful Life | Sparklehorse [on repeat, mind you]

Golly. Can you believe it? We've survived the peaks, valleys, tragedies, and shenanigans of yet another year at Stanford. We've shared a good laugh, a good cry, a good all-nighter, a good drink. We've really learned and grown and changed a great deal this year. Let's take a moment to let that marinate shall we?

We've learned how to change car batteries; how to mix drinks; how to create terribly large phalluses. We ate with plastic chopsticks. We got sick at Santa Cruz. We got hit by cars. And we still had enough time to discover our majors.

We really are something else. Now, with this in mind, consider this:

Once again, I'm the last person left on campus.

Oh yes, I know. Nora is here- with Shiyan. Danny is here- with his family. Annie and Yamanda will be here- in a week. Dina is here now- alone.

And you know, I wasn't gonna say anything. I was not going to say a thing- had I not just had the singular, most awkward moment of my life. I went to the Olive Garden and then to Gelato with Cole and his friends Steve, Danny Neil, and Jen. And it was great. Well, it was nice. But so nice, that on the way home I said in the car, "Hey boys who are staying on campus," referring to Danny and Steve, "you wanna hang out this summer?" To which I received:

[silence].

For a good 45 seconds before I said, "Or you can just sit there, awkwardly in the silence." Followed by my nice, someone- shoot-me-now laugh.
"Yeah guys," says Cole, fruitlessly trying to ease the tension. Simultaneously, Danny chuckles awkwardly and Steve quickly mumbles, "Yeah, I'll be here."

[silence again].

In my head I'm like flipping out. No, that did not just happen. Cole continues to try and ease the awkwardness, before he resorts to, "No, guys really. You have to say something. Say yes. You don't have to mean it. Just do it."

awkward laughter

[more silence.]

I don't even want to go on. I mean, that's when I checked out. That was the singular, most awkward moment I've ever suffered through-- all this, while sitting bitch in the back seat of Cole's Ford Something-or-other. We get to the Flo Mo parking lot, and they watched me try to salvage what was left of my self-esteem. I delivered a polite, "so great to meet you, yeah it was fun." And it could have stopped there. I could have walked away and we all could have pretended that nothing had happened. But Cole, bless his soul, Cole says, "Hey! You guys should all hang out this summer, since you know, you'll all be on campus." I smiled at Cole, gave him a hug, rattled on some nonsense about having a great summer and walked up to 680.

You'd be greatly deceived my friend if you think the story ends there. Because it actually ends here:

I checked my email shortly after arriving to 680 so I could get the link to the water cooler. The latest message in my inbox is: "Danny Neil has listed you as a friend," Love, the faceboook.com. Aw, isn't that nice.
